About this calculator

The SME Carbon Footprint Calculator enables Malaysian SMEs to quickly measure their carbon footprint according to GHG Protocol Guidance. It covers Scope 1 emissions from stationary and mobile fuel combustion, and Scope 2 emissions from purchased electricity, which are the most common sources for SMEs.

Why DEFRA?

Malaysia does not yet publish its own emission factors for the combustion of liquid fuels (petrol, diesel) or gaseous fuels. MGTC references DEFRA/DESNZ because it is internationally recognised, updated annually, and aligned with the GHG Protocol, and suitable for Malaysian SMEs preparing inventories to internationally comparable standards. For Scope 2 (grid electricity) we use Malaysia's own Grid Emission Factor published by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga), the locally authoritative source.
